About Arundhati

NOTE: Next available in Summer 2015. (In the UK for school from mid-September 2014 - June 2015)

I am currently a student studying Graphic and Communications design in the University of Leeds in the UK.
I'm available when I'm home visiting during the summer.

I have plenty of experience helping students with computer related projects, particularly with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. I am very familiar with these programs, as well as Dreamweaver. I am also knowledgeable of HTML, CSS, some Java and PHP.

When helping someone with a creative project, I really work towards making my client or student's vision develop into a final piece that is refined and functional. I would ensure that the student understands how and when to use certain process.

For academic lessons, I would work according the individuals needs. I like to make lessons enjoyable for the student so that they are actively engaged and motivated to learn. I studied under the American standard curriculum and took AP courses, as well as graduated with an International Baccalaureate degree in high school.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Illustrator

I have been using Adobe Illustrator for several years and am currently using the CS5 version. I am knowledgeable in the tools and functions in the program, am able to compare this program to other adobe programs and am able to determine when and why it's appropriate to use Illustrator vs. another program. I have personally used it to create graphics, logo designs, and typography assignments for college.

Adobe InDesign

I've used Adobe InDesign for my Communications and Graphics Design course as well as freelance work, so I am familiar with the software at a professional level. Students often wonder about the difference between InDesign and Photoshop. The best way to answer is that InDesign is ideal for creating layouts for print documents. I can assist my students in using the program if they have a specific project to complete from start to finish, from how to set up their new page to how the final should be saved and exporting it into a pdf document. For students who don't have any assignments to be done and just want to understand the program, I can explain all the tools and teach the student how each is used and also teach how to use 'smart guides' and 'rulers' to their advantage so that they understand the benefits of using InDesign when creating documents. It's great for booklets, fliers, packets, brochures, etc.

Adobe Photoshop

I have been using Adobe Photoshop since 2004, and am currently using Adobe Photoshop CS5. I have a good understanding of the program features. Beyond that, I can teach how to create things on the program according to my client's preference such as editing photographs to creating pieces of art, avatars, desktop wallpapers, and much more.

Algebra 1

I was in a higher level/ honors level math class from elementary school throughout high school. When teaching the subject, I evaluate the student's strengths and weaknesses and design a tutorial program based on results. I try to keep the lessons fun and engaging so that students get motivated to study more. This methods were quite effective when I tutored middle schoolers in my neighborhood.

Dreamweaver

I started web designing in my freshman year of high school. I now do it professionally for commissions. I used Dreamweaver to framework my own personal website.

I have knowledge and experience in using various functions in this program as well as aid students in web design.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have experience in tutoring kids in a volunteer program called IYS. I have taught English to young kids in India, tutored high school English to younger teens in my neighborhood, and was an active summer reading volunteer at my local library. I can help with elementary math, English, and reading.

Elementary Math

Lessons will revolve around the parent and student's requests and needs. If the lessons are general, I can create and agree upon a curriculum with the parent that will focus on working on where the student is struggling. Math topics will vary depending on the student's grade level and skill level. I will also make the lessons fun and engaging in order to help the student gain more enthusiasm about the subject in addition to gaining a stronger gasp on what is being taught.

Handwriting

Typography has a tremendous role in my profession as a Graphic Designer. Therefore, precision and accuracy in penmanship is a skill I have had to acquire. I have had to create various typefaces for logo designs using my own handwriting in previous projects.

Beyond just handing out handwriting worksheets, I can help dissect each letter and explain the attributes that makes it recognizable. I can help students develop consistency in their lettering to bring out clarity and an overall improved aesthetic to their writing.

I am able to help with both print and cursive writing.

HTML

I started web designing in my freshman year of high school. I now do it professionally for commissions.

I will teach the basics of web design, HTML, and CSS. Lessons can be more advance depending on the students requests. I am also open to helping a student build a site.

Macintosh

I use a MacBook Pro on a daily basis, as my major requires me to own a Mac. I'm familiar with all of the programs that the computer comes with and have an understanding of the interface. Lessons depend on each student's needs.

Microsoft Word

I have had years of experience with Microsoft Office for both Windows and Mac OS. I can assist with explaining the basic functions, text formatting, and creating layouts for essays, documents, fliers, resumes, booklets, presentations, etc.

Prealgebra

I was in a higher level/ honors level math class from elementary school throughout high school. When teaching the subject, I evaluate the student's strengths and weaknesses and design a tutorial program based on results. I try to keep the lessons fun and engaging so that students get motivated to study more. This methods were quite effective when I tutored middle schoolers in my neighborhood.

Web Design

I started web designing in my freshman year of high school. I now do it professionally for commissions.

I will teach the basics of web design. Lessons can be more advance depending on the students requests. I am also open to helping a student build a site.

The lesson plan is specialized depending on the students needs/wants. I will go over html and css coding, as well as instructions on how to create various types of website templates. I can also give instructions on how to set up a domain, maintain the site, and more. Web design can be done through adobe Dreamweaver, and student not have the software, I can do demonstrations on my own laptop. For students who want to learn how to do web design without software, I can teach how to code completely from scratch on notepad. We can also look into blogging sites such a WordPress if so desired.
