Allegany College of Maryland (Ap Technical Studies)
Frostburg State University (Graduate Coursework)
My name is Jeff. I am twenty-nine years old (going on thirty) and have been teaching since 1999 (mostly music). My main interest are in physics, math, computer science, and music( percussion/bass). I started teaching private drum lessons when I was seventeen and continued until December of 2007 when I decided to take a small sabbatical to gain some other work experience. I have completed 87 credits at Frostburg State University and 17 credits at Allegany College of Maryland. I plan on receiving my Associates Degree from ACM within a year and my Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from FSU within two years.
I am currently employed at ACM in Cumberland as a Computer Lab Technician and also at Commercial Sound and Music in Frostburg. I have also tutored math there as well and have been approved to tutor chemistry and computer science; I went through an online tutoring course provided by the college as a pre-requisite. I have also worked many other jobs including: retail, audio engineer, machinist assistant, pipe organ technician, and a helpdesk technician. My hobbies include: music, audio engineering, computers, photography, physics, meta-physics, psychology, reading, teaching, volunteering, mentoring, carpentry, metalwork, camping, hiking and the outdoors. I also have a wife and we are raising two creative children.
My teaching style varies from student to student. I normally start by assessing the students abilities and try to figure out their particular learning style. From there I review a bit of material to warm up the session and our brains, then start with the material that is troublesome. I then try to warm down the session by reviewing the covered material to spark any other ideas or questions that might have been dormant. My name is Jeff. My rate is based on billable hours. The sessions will last 1 hr then we will continue until I feel that we have covered at least 1 hr of material; Max is 2 hrs/session.
I only had one session so far with Jeff and I would greatly advise anyone who needs a tutor to get in touch with him. He does a great job and is very easy to follow. He is easily accessible and scheduling was not a problem. Jeff will go out of his way to meet your needs. I was very much satisfied.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
When I was 20, in 2002, I was thinking about joining the Army Reserves. I had not taken my ASVAB test and went to take the test in Pittsburgh at the federal building. The highest score possible is a 97; I took the test on a whim and received a 94. I believe that I could have performed better if the computer screens were of better quality at the time of the test. The test covered many aspects of general knowledge including: Math, Science, Auto Mechanics, Cognitive Ability, and Electronics. My test taking strategy plus my past experience from work, life, and school were the key factors in me receiving the score that I did.
I have been a drummer since fifth grade in elementary school when I was 10 and still continue to play and practice. I began taking private drum lessons at the age of thirteen and continued until I turned 18. I began giving lessons when I was seventeen and taught for nine consecutive years giving lessons to countless students from the tri-state area from ages four to sixty.
In addition, I have also performed in several performing groups. In high school, I tried out for the All County Concert Band and Orchestra for all four years and was consecutively offered a seat in each one. I also performed with the Tri-State Honor Band at Frostburg State University. I was a member of the FSU Jazz Ensemble from 1999 until 2004, a member of the FSU Percussion Ensemble, Marching Band, Concert band, and accompanied many students and faculty in their performances. I was also a member of the Potomac State College jazz band and concert band in Keyser, WV. In addition to the academic performances, I have also performed in the orchestra for several theatrical productions including: Leader of the Pack, The Sound of Music, South Pacific, Working, Godspell, and Grease.
I have an AS in Applied Technical Studies from Allegany College of MD where I also worked in their IT department for four years and tutored through their Student Success Center for a semester. I also have studied at Frostburg State University working towards a bachelors degree with a physics major and a math and computer science minor.
I have experience, both professionally and academically, with computer networking. My professional experience includes working at Allegany College of Maryland as an IT Technician for four years, and I have also worked as call center based technical support for a company hosting web based POS systems. I also studied networking while working towards my associates degree.
