I have been tutoring since 2003 and can cover anything from pre-algebra through Calculus. My approach is a very low pressure and easy going way of learning. I don't make any extra work for students (unless requested), as I find most of them bogged down already.

I simply help students understand what they are currently working on in school and then fill in the gaps in their knowledge. When a student doesn't understand something, I go back to what they do understand and build on that.

I also love playing chess and have taught many young people the game. By starting out with just a few pieces at a time, new players are not overwhelmed by the complexity of the game.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Chess

I love teaching chess to new players. By only introducing one piece at a time, newcomers to the game are never overwhelmed by the complexity of the game. Usually we start with a "pawn battle" and add an additional piece each game.

Prealgebra

I have been tutoring Pre-algebra since 2003. This is a very important class as it will serve as a base for all future math.

SAT Math

I have helped many students prepare for the Math section of the SATs every year since 2003.

Standard form of parabola is y = ax2 + bx + c Vertex form of parabola is y = a(x-h)2 + k where (h,k) is the vertex.   a is the same in each equation, which is given as 10, and if we also plug in the vertex given we get (in vertex form)   y = 10(x-(5))2 + (-4)   Now...

Low pressure with great results — Scott has been an amazing help for my son! Since Scott has started working with him, his fundamental understanding of Algebra 1 has increased substantially...along with his test scores! Scott has a low pressure method of teaching, which my son responds very well to. He met my son where he was at, and personalized his lessons to address his specific areas of need. He is very intuitive and extremely ...
