Hello Parents and Students!

My name is Caitlin. I recently moved back to Maryland after teaching for three years in Ohio, where I taught Algebra II, Trigonometry, and AP Calculus. I have also taught an SAT/ACT Preparatory class last year. I am licensed to teach math (7-12), but I am not limited to those grades alone.

I love tutoring, and strangely enough, I love math! Sometimes math just doesn't click for some students, and I think that's simply because it needs to be explained in a different way. That's what I am here to do--I am here to help students discover their ability to learn and understand the seemingly nerdy world of math! I have tutored students from grades 2-12 as well as college students. I tutored through my University and have also tutored at Sylvan Learning Center. Every student learns differently, so why should teachers all teach the same? I am here to learn how you learn, then teach you the way you will learn best.

Math doesn't have to be a burden--let me help!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

ACT Math is a culmination of the math students are required to take during their high school years. As a certified high school math teacher, this is the area I was specifically trained to teach, and I really enjoy teaching this subject matter!

Algebra 1

As a licensed high school math teacher, Algebra I is one of my favorite subjects to teach. When explained and taught correctly, this is one of the most applicable maths to everyday life.

Algebra 2

As a certified high school math teacher, I am fully qualified to teach Algebra II. I taught Algebra II for 3 years, and it is one of my favorite subjects to teach. From graphing linear equations to higher order polynomials, Algebra II brings to light a variety of functions and how they work.

Calculus

I taught AP Calculus AB for the past two years. I have attended 4 seminars on teaching AP Calculus AB/BC and have gained tremendous knowledge and skills from these seminars. I am currently working on my masters in mathematics, which requires extensive work with Calculus. Since I am constantly having to use Calculus, the concepts remain fresh in my memory, making it easier to teach and tutor in this subject.

Differential Equations

I took Differential Equations as an undergraduate student while I was at Cedarville University, in which I received an A. After taking this course, I became a teacher's assistant for this course, where I tutored students and graded student work. One of the courses I took in graduate school was called Differential Geometry, which gave an in depth look at Differential Equations and their applications in the realm of Geometry. In this course, I also received an A. I have a deep understanding of Differential Equations and its applications, which is why I am well-qualified to tutor this subject.

Geometry

Geometry begins to show students how algebra is applied to real-life situations. With a solid background in Algebra and Geometry, students will be ready for higher level maths such as Trigonometry and Calculus.

Linear Algebra

I took Linear Algebra as an undergraduate student while I was at Cedarville University, in which I received an A. After taking this course, I tutored Linear Algebra students for two semesters. One of the courses I took in graduate school was called Linear Algebra and Functions of Variables, which gave an in depth look at Linear Algebra and its applications. In this course, I also received an A. I have a deep understanding of Linear Algebra and its applications, which is why I am well-qualified to tutor this subject.

Precalculus

I taught Precalculus for the past two years and have enjoyed it tremendously. Precalculus takes Algebra II to the next level, with a focus on various functions.

Probability

Now what is more applicable to life than probability? Whether it's flipping a coin or playing fantasy football, probability is at the heart of any chance we take. This is one of my favorite subjects to teach because it is very easy to come up with hands on activities or visualizations that can make probability make perfect sense!

SAT Math

SAT Math is a culmination of the math students are required to take during their high school years. As a certified high school math teacher, this is the area I was specifically trained to teach, and I really enjoy teaching this subject matter!

Trigonometry

I have taught Trigonometry for the past 2 years, and it is by far my favorite subject to teach. The way Trigonometry combines the two worlds of Geometry and Algebra is extraordinary. Trigonometry "completes the mathematical picture" of students' high school math career, and it prepares them for higher level maths they will take in college.

-1/4y-5>-8 (answer)

Yes!   -1/4y - 5 > -8             Add 5 to both sides        +5    +5   -1/4y > -3                  Multiply by -4, which flips our inequality x...

To answer this question you must use long division. You ask yourself, "what multiplies with x^2 to get x^5?" The answer is x^3. So that is the first part of your answer. Now multiply x^3 by (x^2-2). This gives you x^5-2x^2. You subtract this from x^5-5x^4+7x^3+x^2-8x+7,...
