ASVAB
I have taken the ASVAB and have assisted many students in preparing to take the ASVAB when I was working as a high school math and science teacher. Four areas make up the score for the Armed Forces Qualifying Test (AFQT) - Arithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension and Mathematics Knowledge. I have taught and tutored all of these specific subject areas for 8 years, and I will be happy to work with you as you prepare to take the ASVAB and to enter a career in the military.
Bible Studies
I have been studying the Bible by independent study for over 10 years, and I went to Bible college for 4 years. I have taken specific classes in Old Testament, New Testament, the teachings of Christ, the teachings of Paul, Romans, Acts, Bible Doctrines, Modern Cults as they relate to the Bible, Biblical perspectives on marriage, and Biblical womanhood. I am constantly involved in continuing education and personal Bible study. I am involved in teaching and discipling youth (age 14-18) in biblical principles on a weekly basis.
I have experience with several Bible translations, including the King James Version, New King James Version, New International Version, English Standard Version, The Amplified Bible, and The Message. I commit to understanding the differences between these translations and to always referring back to the Greek and Hebrew for final interpretation of the scripture.
I believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and that it is profitable not only for the addition of knowledge but for the development of a living relationship with a living God who came to earth in human form to die for the sin of mankind and who rose from the dead, taking our sin and giving those who trust Him as their personal Savior victory over death, eternal life, and a personal relationship with Him.
Elementary (K-6th)
I enjoy tutoring and teaching elementary age children because the skills that they learn at this young age will be the foundation for learning for the rest of their lives. I realize the importance of a sensory, experiential learning environment for young children and I adapt my teaching style to meet the individual needs of each child. I have experience tutoring students age 3 through college age, both with and without special needs. I enjoy working with children who have speech and language difficulties, and I emphasize good study habits and the importance of using all life experiences as a time for learning. I can comfortably and confidently teach math, science, reading, writing, and a variety of other elementary level subjects. I strive in every lesson to make learning fun and to instill in children a love of learning... not just for the moment, but for a lifetime.
ESL/ESOL
I have taught conversational english as a second language to Chinese exchange students for two years through PeopleLink, a foreign exchange program. In addition, I also taught and tutored Korean students ages 10-18 for two years in English, math, and science. I am constantly studying other languages and cultures to become more proficient in them. I excel at grammar and composition of the English language, and I especially enjoy teaching students using a holistic method involving book work, conversational work, and experiential learning by emphasizing using english in everyday life at the store, at work, and when spending time with others.
Special Needs
I have 10 years of experience working with children and adults with special needs. I have worked as a camp counselor, respite care provider, individual support specialist, Special Olympics coach, autism instructor, horseback riding instructor, math and science teacher, and tutor to children and adults of varying ages and disabilities.
I have 5 years of experience implementing IEP goals and helping students to adapt their study and learning habits in order to succeed in learning, not only for classroom and test knowledge, but for lifelong learning and skill acquisition.
I provide tutoring and study skills help for individuals in pre-kindergarten through adults in all subjects, including english, handwriting, reading, math (elementary through algebra), and science.
