I love teaching middle schoolers! Math is my specialty! All students are welcome, special needs are no problem. I am effective with students who have ADD/ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, anxiety and many other disabilities. Students love my sense of humor, patience, and friendliness.

I have been an MCPS para-educator for 9 years and have taught most middle school topics. I am experienced teaching sixth, seventh and eighth grade subjects and methods. In addition, I have three teenage children of my own plus a super husband and two crazy dogs.

As a special education para-educator in MCPS with 9 years experience, I have an extensive background teaching organizational and study skills. I have worked with students with many combinations of skills and needs within the classroom environment as well as within "resource" classes where those skills are broken down and practiced on a daily basis.

Special Needs

Many of my students with special needs have a combination of disabilities and challenges that I strive to understand before crafting a unique approach to learning and practicing. Having assisted students with anxiety, specific learning disabilities, task avoidance or health impairments, I find success with trying multiple approaches and lots of patience. My students feel comfortable and often gain confidence in the topic we are working on.

ADD/ADHD

My students benefit from a variety of strategies to initiate and sustain attention to task. Fellow teachers ask me how I stay so patient. Having taught students with disabilities for nine years, I understand that each student has a unique combinations of skills and needs. I am skilled at evaluating their needs and constructing an approach that will bring success.

Aspergers

My students who have an Aspergers profile are treated with patience and understanding. I can assess where my students are academically and emotionally. Many students with Aspergers have superior intellectual ability and need a tutor who will determine how the student learns and what combination of approaches will work the best.

Autism

My students with autism receive a calm, consistent and supportive approach to learning. My fist step is to understand how the student learns best, then I ask about what their special interests are. Using a combination of approaches, tools, and strategies, my students build a concrete understanding of the topic.
