Hi, my name is Cynthia G. I am a freelance writer in multiple genres with seven books and numerous stories and articles to my publishing credit. Various educational and vocational experiences have contributed to a comprehensive knowledge base. A firm believer that higher education need not equate to vocational training, I hold a B.A. in Russian Language and Literature from The George Washington University in Washington, DC, and optimized my lifelong Spanish language study with two summers of total-immersion study at Middlebury College Language Schools in Middlebury, Vermont. I attended the Sheffield School of Aeronautics in Miami, FL and obtained FAA licensure as an aircraft dispatcher. I subsequently dispatched jet aircraft for Midwest Express Airlines in Milwaukee and Federal Express (FedEx) in Memphis. I also spent four years as a verbatim court reporter before becoming a freelance writer.

I am the author of two published novels, as well as nonfiction dog-breed books. My other writing credits include a five-volume educational video set on the U.S. Presidents, an educational video on Washington, DC, and numerous print and online magazines and websites.

I am a member of the American Society of Authors and Journalists, the Women's National Book Association, and the Dog Writers Association of America. I spent seven years as an adjunct tutor at the U.S. Naval Academy's Writing Center, where future naval officers learn that excellent writing skills, both academic and professional, are crucial to success. I provide writing tutelage to secondary-school students for college application essays, written assignments of all lengths for students of all levels, and interview preparation.

A typical tutoring session may involve reviewing a student's specific writing assignment, providing feedback and assistance, and assigning a revision for further review. SAT preparation involves reviewing practice essays in student-provided SAT-preparation books, and revising for speed, clarity, accuracy. Tutoring sessions may be accomplished online or in person at a mutually convenient public location.

Corporate Training:

I can help high school, college, and graduate students structure, write, and revise their papers and/or essays for English courses.

I can help students learn to speak and/or write in proper English, differentiating colloquial from grammatically correct usage. I have worked with foreign national students at the United States Naval Academy's Writing Center, many of whom have very limited English language education. I have a working knowledge of Spanish, Russian, and German, which is helpful when working with native speakers of these languages who want to improve their English.

I can help students speak and write grammatically correct English, differentiating colloquial speech from the language as it is intended to be used. If you want to know why it's incorrect to say "between you and I," call me!

Microsoft Word

I have been tutoring students at the US Naval Academy using MS Word since 2006. I've also written six published books using MS Word on my PC with Windows XP and MS Word version 2003. I have created many promotional products, such as bookmarks, using MS Word.

I review work for typographical, grammatical, and formatting errors. As a published author and freelance editor, I have enjoyed proofreading professionally for 19 years.

Social Studies

I am very well-versed in the topic of the Holocaust, not just by virtue of my own high-calibre secular and Jewish education, but because I am the author of a published novel, that is based on the true story of a Holocaust survivor's experiences before, during, and after the war. I can assist students in this area of historical study.

I am a stickler for proper spelling, and can help you eliminate spelling mistakes in your writing. The English language can be a challenge, but one to which I can help you rise.

As a published author and experienced Writing Center tutor at the U.S. Naval Academy, I help students with all phases of academic and professional writing, from brainstorming ideas to proofreading final drafts. I am meticulous about correct grammar and spelling. I have a broad knowledge base in many areas that enables me to understand my students' topics.
