I am very knowledgeable in areas of Special Education and have always been very successful in meeting my student's needs. I first build a relationship with the student then meet the needs of the student on whatever level he-she might me on.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education from Ohio State University. I have done some graduate work in Special Education at Johns Hopkins University. I have taught Special Education in three different public school systems: St. Mary's, Charles, and Prince Georges counties. I am a retired Special Education teacher. I love working with children. I gain great satisfaction when a student is learning.

My goal is always to meet the student's needs - both emotional and educational - when it comes to learning. I have experience working with ADD/ADHD, Autistic, Learning Disabled, Developmentally Disabled and elementary grades. I use positive reinforcement to motivate my students. I have extensive experience in developing and implementing Individual Educational Plans. I am able to set realistic goals and objectives based on the parent's desire and the student's needs.

Vocabulary

I have worked in a resource room and a regular classroom and am a retired Special Education teacher. I increase a student's vocabulary through understanding when reading. Depending on the student's age I use pictures to assist in the understanding of words. For older students I use context when reading to increase their vocabulary. I have been successful in increasing vocabulary both in written and verbal skills.

Reading
