Greetings, and thank you for viewing my tutoring profile. My name is Thomas P. I was born in Lancaster, PA, but was raised in Cecil County, Maryland.
I studied English and Comparative Religion at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, in southern Maryland. While there, I composed a southern gothic novel, "All That is Seen and Unseen," that I edited three times under the guidance of Maryland’s former Poet Laureate, Michael S. Glaser. This was a great experience during which I learned how extremely important and enriching the act of editing can be!
Also while at St. Mary’s, I actively worked to improve my craft as a poet. I enjoy poetry very much, both reading and writing it. Perhaps it was my exposure to the vividness and simplicity of Asian poetry (Chinese, Japanese, Indian, and Tibetan in particular) that inspired me to study the religious traditions of Asia. Of particular interest to me are the Zen traditions of Japan and Korea, the yogic traditions of India and Tibet, and the Chan and Taoist traditions of China. My studies prepared me to plan and execute a six-week study tour in the Northern Indian Himalayan state of Himaschal Pradesh, in the fall of 2010. While there, I drafted a second extended narrative of near-novel length that follows a hero on his fantastic journey to discover a remedy for the suffering in his homeland.
I earned my Masters in Secondary Education at Wilmington University in May 2012, and have had many positive experiences in the classroom setting. I am very pleased you are considering me for you tutor. I am effective at honing students' critical reading and writing skills as well as preparing students for success on tests.
