My name is Sheila M., and I am a Special Education Teacher with 6 years of experience. I am qualified to work as a reading specialist. I am proficient in using the Wilson Reading Program, which is a phonics based reading program and all of my students made progress this year. As a special education teacher we are trained to teach all of the content areas. I am proficient in English Language Arts and Math. I am familiar with various types of assessment, such as Woodcock-Johnson Test of Achievement. I am a team player and always establishes a great rapport with other professionals, parents, and of course with my students.

I believe that all students can learn, it's simply a matter of the teacher finding strategies that work for them. I fully disagree that one size fits all and that is why it is important for the teacher to be very familiar with differentiating the lessons, in this I am the expert. I am a people person and children have a special place in my heart. I am firm, consistent, fair, and compassionate. If you were to hire me, you would be getting a teacher that would leave nothing to chance in enhancing your child's ability in reaching his/her potential as a successful learner and having fun along the way.

I take my role as a teacher very seriously, because I realize the extremely important role that teachers have in shaping your child's mind, I have attended several professional developments in all content areas and will start at MA in Reading at Trinity University.

I have found that children generally want to learn and they want boundaries; I am that kind of teacher that does both. I am not all over the place with trying different theories on children, I find one that works for that content area and and once we have mastery, I move on to the next goal.

If you were to select me, you would get a responsible, nurturing, caring, and disciplined individual who always put the needs of the children first. It's always about the kids. I continue to attend many professional developments seminars that will enable me to be the best that I can be.
