I am a scholar of Germanic Studies. I have been teaching German language
and culture for many years. During my Ph.D. program, I expanded the scope of my scholarly competence onto Multiculturalism, Post-colonialism, Literary theory, Minority Studies, Gender Studies, and general humanistic considerations.
Although my academic orientation is Germanic, English
constitute a foundation to my German orientation. I am Nigerian (people from colonized nations are never considered native speakers of any European language), I started speaking English at an early stage of my life, and it has emerged as my first language of competence. Communicative competence in French became a broadening addition to my linguistic capabilities. Apart from these three European languages, I speak one African language (Ibo) fluently, and two other, Yoruba and Luganda, minimally.
I have taught French at the high school level in Nigeria. But when I elected to pursue German as the language for my scholarly career, I deemphasized French and elevated German.
I have taught German at college levels both in Nigeria and in the States. In teaching the German language, I adopt all kinds of strategies to help the students learn. Because life is not lived in one spot, I exploit the indoors and the outdoors to generate learning - enhancing circumstances for my students. I also employ the multimedia to avail the students the opportunity of witnessing the native environment and atmosphere of the German language.
