I am a stay-at-home mom with a B.S. in Mathematics and a minor in Secondary Education from the University of Maryland. I really love tutoring more than any job that I've ever had. Parents have praised my patience and understanding and one student gave me a phone call when she was so excited after receiving a 100% on a math quiz! As I have transportation and childcare limitations, I prefer to do most of my tutoring at my home in College Park.

Previous experience:
I was a teaching aid at UMD for 3 semesters in pre-algebra, algebra I, algebra II and geometry. I did my student teaching in middle school and high school for 1 year. I also passed the Praxis I and Praxis II for math teaching.

I also have federal government work experience for 2 years in data analysis.

Tutoring-wise, I was an after-school tutor at a middle school for 1 semester. I've done more than 250 hours of self-employed tutoring in the past 18 months. I've helped students taking 6th grade math, algebra 1, algebra 2, probability and statistics, pre-calculus, calculus 2, calculus 3, linear algebra, discrete math. I have also prepared students to take the math portions of MSA, GED, Praxis I, ASVAB, and AFOQT.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 2

I've had the most experience tutoring this subject more than any other. A few of my students have received As on their tests after coming to review with me.

Calculus

I took and passed Calculus I, II, and III and Advanced Calculus I and II as part of my B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Maryland.

Computer Programming

From the University of Maryland, I received a B in "Intro to programming for the physical sciences" in Fall 2004 and I received a B in "Computation Methods" in Fall 2007. I also have 2 years of work experience programming in C, C++, Fortran, and scripting languages (unix, linux, matlab) from 2008 to 2010. I can tutor for any intro to programming class.

Differential Equations

I received a A in Differential Equations at the University of Maryland in the Fall of 2007. I currently review and practice from a textbook and previous exams regularly.

Elementary Math

I've had great success tutoring a few 6th graders. I would love to have the experience of tutoring a 4th or 5th grader also.

Linear Algebra

I received a B in Linear Algebra (Math240) at the University of Maryland in Fall 2004. Additionally, I received an A in Applications of Linear Algebra (Math401) at the University of Maryland in Summer 2005. I also regularly review and practice problems from a text book and previous exams.

Prealgebra

I taught 7th grade Pre-Algebra full-time for a few months as part of my Student-teaching semester at UMD.

Precalculus

I've tutored a high school senior taking Pre-calculus for a few weeks. Her quiz scores went up and she felt happy again and then no longer needed me.

Probability

This math topic tends to be more challenging for tutors to teach as it requires more teaching for actual understanding than of just memorization of steps and repetition. I review probability from time to time to keep myself ready for the next student who needs help.

Statistics

I took an upper-level Probability and Statistics class at the University of Maryland and I review it from time to time.

Trigonometry

The first thing I think of when I think of Trigonometry is SOH-CAH-TOA! There are also the law of sines, the law of cosines, and some trig identities useful in algebraic manipulation. Some of those may require some songs and rhymes in order to remember them.

It would help for me to see what problem has that phrase in it. I would assume that below/under that sentence there is a story or a picture of an event that you have to look at.

Hint: Think of how many hours in 1 minute and then multiply by m. The number of hours in 1 minute will be be a fraction. What fraction of an hour is 1 minute? (then multiply by m)

12p+15c>360 (answer)

For the instruction to "solve" the equation, did they specify "solve for p" or "solve for c" ? If so, then that means to first put it in slope-intercept form by using algebra to get the p or the c by itself on the left side of the ">" sign.
