I am a math grad student at the University of MD with seven years of experience tutoring math and math SAT prep. I have worked together with parents and teachers to help my students grasp difficult math concepts, learn to think critically, and become self-confident. I tutor students from elementary school through most undergraduate math courses.
It is not my goal to impress you by listing my own grades, test scores, and awards. What makes me a good tutor is more than an ability to understand a given mathematical concept myself. I am a good teacher because I can break down this concept in a way that is understandable to my students and, in the process, find creative ways to challenge and motivate them. Ultimately, I want to help my students develop the skills they need to be successful when they work on their own.
I tutor because it is rewarding to see my students have an 'aha!' moment as they figure out a tricky problem. It is wonderful to see them become self-confident as they feel more comfortable doing math. It is exciting to get a phone call from a student and hear how much they improved their SAT score, learn that a quiz went really well, or find out that they decided to major in math.
I am happy to answer any questions, forward you a copy of my resume, or get you in touch with parents of my current students.
