I am currently a student of Chinese language and economics at St. Mary's College of Maryland, and have 13 years of Mandarin Chinese language experience. I began my study of Mandarin in the fifth grade at the Landon School in Bethesda, Maryland, and upon graduation moved to Beijing to study Chinese on a fellowship from the China Scholarship Council.
I currently tutor students in the Chinese Language Program at St. Mary's College of Maryland and also throughout the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. In addition to tutoring Chinese students, I am also currently researching one-on-one language pedagogy with the language department faculty at St. Mary's College.
My love of Chinese extends far beyond the language itself, and I believe that to truly become proficient in the Chinese language one must also study Chinese culture. Therefore I teach my students many of the subtle cultural nuances that separate a native speaker from someone who has simply memorized vocabulary lists and set phrases. I look forward to helping each of my students achieve fluency in Mandarin and a deep appreciation for Chinese culture.
