I am a Japanese major from the University of Maryland - College Park. I'm incredibly passionate about the language and its propagation and I have spent a good amount of time tutoring various topics. I grew up speaking a little Japanese in my Elementary School program and have been passionate about it since. Currently, I am a senior at College Park taking advanced courses in Japanese concerning Contemporary Literature and Classical Era Grammar (we are reading classics like The Pillow Book in their native language).
What makes me unique, and possibly a good fit for you, is that I focus more on the raw grammar of the language rather than the terminology or the mindless repetition. Of course, you will also get lists of important words to know and other things as well. Also, all of my lessons will often include cultural knowledge of do's, do-nots, and history. More advanced and specialized tutoring is available on the topics of Japanese Culture, Japanese Modern History (1800's-Modern Day), Japanese Minority Studies (Ainu, Zainichi, Burakumin, Ryukyu'ans, etc), and Japanese Colonial History.
While I am not fluent yet, nor a native speaker, I am fully capable of tutoring the Beginning to Lower-Advanced levels and I can offer specialized tutoring for the JLPT in particular (From levels 5 to 2).
I am willing to travel reasonable distances from home.
