As a special educator of fifteen years I have worked with various age groups of students and adults of disabilities. I have implemented and taught groups and individuals on various subjects based on their learning needs. I have implemented goals and objectives for these students and tallied their progress throughout the school year. I have implemented Individual Educational Plans for each students with the assistance of the educational team which consists of the parents, general educational teacher and social worker.

Currently I am working one on one with an autistic student that displays many behaviors and needs assistance with basic reading writing and listening skills. I display empathy, patience and teamwork with the family which has helped me throughout my career.

I have a masters in Special Education from Johns Hopkins University and a bachelor of science in Mental Health technology from Morgan State university . I have worked in a variety of Public schools as a special education teacher and coordinator. Subjects of interest have been English grades first through 8 th grade and Mathematics first to 6 th grade.

For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. ADD/ADHD

In Johns Hopkins University I took several classes and did internships regarding students with ADD and ADHD. I learned that these students tend to have focusing difficulty with completing tasks that you have to give them task analysis which provides them with small steps to complete a task.

Aspergers

My experience with these individuals is that intellectually they are easy to grasp concepts regarding academics. They have difficulty with social skills. I have taught these students coping and social skills for several years. I have provided real life scenarios and taught them skills to assist them with dealing with others in the real world.

Autism

For eight years I worked as a self contained autistic teacher. Autistic students require structure consistency and structure on the home and classroom. I am currently working with an autistic student that I have implemented a structured behavior plan and teach one on one basic life skills and reading.

Elementary (K-6th)

For three years I was an inclusion teacher in Fairfax County public schools where I modified and taught various subjects with the general education teacher. I taught small and individual groups with language arts and math grades kindergarten to sixth grade using manipulatively. I have been the lead teacher which have taught science and social studies to a group of fifth graders for a year.

Phonics

As a special education teacher I have worked on various reading programs such as SPIRE which assisted special education students on phonics. I have used online reading programs with my students such as abc teach and k12 teach.org, which has taught and demonstrated progress for students. I have used tactiles and other manipulatives which have helped my students learn phonics.

Special Needs

As a special educator of fifteen years, I have implanted goals and objectives, behavior plans and individual educational plans for students of many different disabilities.
Having a master's in special education from Johns Hopkins University has provided me many experiences and internships with working with special needs children. I have been an inclusion and self contained teacher in various subjects and modifying subjects.

Study Skills

As a special educator of fifteen years, I had to implement strategies to assist my students. As I examined my students' strengths and weaknesses as I developed their Individual Educational Plan, I created flash cards, quizzes and Acronyms which helped them remember what they had learned in class.
