A second language
is proven to boost creativity, empathy and cognitive functions
, while putting us on a path to increased academic and career success. I have been tutoring and teaching Spanish
in the Washington area +15 years. I worked at the United Nations (UNHCR) for six years, as translator, interpreter and teacher. I also worked with FLES (Foreign Language
in Elementary Schools, at Montgomery County public schools, learning to be extremely kind and patient, especially with young children. I have been teaching Spanish in other countries, and as a native Spanish speaker I also know the challenges of learning a foreign languages, because I am also fluent in English
. I volunteer as an interpreter for the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
I have mentored high school students AP/SAT
and IB, as well as diplomats, development specialists in one-on-one training. Many of my former students are now successful professionals in Latin
American countries, working with local counterparts. A large portion of my students have been highly rated in their Spanish language tests (U.S. government), required to pass and secure related jobs here with the State Department or overseas in Spanish speaking countries.
