About Me
I graduated from the College of William and Mary in 2006 with a BA in History and minors in Political Science and Classics. I am a member of Pi Alpha Theta, the national history honors society as well as a member of Pi Sigma Alpha, the honors society for government. I have been involved in tutoring since high school and have been doing it professionally for 5 years. My specialties include test preparation (SAT/ACT), history, government, English, writing, and grammar, amongst others.
SAT Prep
I was professionally trained in SAT prep by The Princeton Review. Hundreds of my students have improved their scores dramatically and have received acceptance letters into the colleges of their choice. Across Math, Reading Comprehension, and Grammar, my students averaged a 350 point improvement within a period as short as 6 weeks. I specialize in showing students not just what the correct answer is, but WHY the answer is correct so that the student can more easily generate a correct response come test time. Any tutor on this site can show your child the correct answer; far fewer can aptly explain the reasoning behind it.
Academic Tutoring
I received a 5 on the US History, Chemistry, US Government, Comparative Government, and World History. As a tutor I have helped clients in these subjects as well as the English APs. All of my students improved their scores during their time working with me and many received the perfect score. In humanities related subjects, the ability to think critically trumps the ability to memorize facts; memorization only helps if that particular question appears on the actual test, whereas if one can think critically, the ability to deduce the answer will come naturally.
