Hello! My name is Zach, and I am a college student with fluency in Italian and English. My experience teaching extends from student teaching in a third grade classroom in Massachusetts to teaching community Italian lessons at the Baltimore Free School. I have been tutoring in various subjects including Italian, chemistry, writing and math for five years and I can assure you that my lessons will be interesting, painless and fun! With language, I offer an optional immersion type setting with dialogue exclusively in the target language. Supplemented with fun games and cultural activities, this approach is designed to maximize your retention of the grammar and vocab. I especially encourage reading in the target language, as that is the method through which I picked up most of my Italian vocabulary. With math, I teach tricks and shortcuts to make learning efficient and easy. Even the most advanced principles can be explained in simpler terms, perhaps ones that cater to your interests! With writing, I help in any area that needs improvement - ideas, fluidity, conciseness, anything you need! We work together throughout the writing process to put together a masterpiece (or a few). I also offer help in basic grade school subjects up to high school, and with the college application and decision process. Feel free to ask me if there's anything else I can do, and I look forward to working with you!
I was diagnosed with ADD as a child, but have since grown out of it. I struggled in elementary and middle school with organizational skills and attentiveness, and had to overcome these obstacles through creativity and persistence. Since high school, I have worked in an elementary school and privately with students who struggle with attention and organization, and I have applied what I have learned personally to their needs in order to help them. I have tutored and taught ADD/ADHD students for over a year.
I am a native English speaker with excellent writing and reading skills. I am a linguist with intensive experience in foreign language and interpretation. I intend to major in foreign language and literature. I have experience tutoring in writing up to the doctorate level. Additionally, I have tutored Spanish-speaking students in ESL for almost a year. I have applied my own linguistic background to their needs in order to foster success. I use a combination of conversational practice, reading, and grammar to teach what can sometimes be a difficult language.
"Highly recommended". — We have tried a few tutors through Wyzant, but my college-age children think Zachary is by far the best tutor. His explanations are done in a manner in which my "math-anxiety" children can understand. We would highly recommend Zachary to anyone struggling with math. We are pleased with our children's progress since working with Zachary. ...
