Reading

I am a Certified Level 1 Wilson Instructor. I use the Orton-Gillingham multisensory method along with other types of instruction for reading and fluency, depending upon the student's needs. I am also familiar with several programs for reading fluency.

Psychology

I have a master's degree in Social Work and have taken a lot of psychology courses. In addition, I have worked in an emergency room setting and evaluated individuals with psychiatric issues. I also worked at Spring Grove Hospital and Baltimore City Jail. In both settings I was assigned to the psychiatric units. I have taken Psych 101, abnormal psychology, group therapy and advanced abnormal psychology in graduate school.

Elementary Math

I have a lot of experience in Elementary Math. I have tutored math for approximately 20 years. This includes lower levels of math. Addition, subtraction, division, decimals, fractions, and multiplication. I can also tutor beginning algebra. In addition, I can help with ratio, percents, and probability etc.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have nineteen years of experience tutoring many students from K to 6th grade in reading, math, writnig and spelling. I'm a Wilson Level 1 certified Language Instructor. In addition, I've done volunteer work in elementary schools. With this work, I had to be trained by the reading specialist. I also tutored students at a private elementary school in my area. Phonics

I am certified in the Wilson Reading Method.(Orton-Gillingham) Along with Wilson, I've had more than 200 hours of training in the Orton-Gillingham Method of teaching reading at the Jemicy School, and I've taken numerous courses such as Project Read. This method is systematic, highly structured, multisensory and based on teaching the structure of words by using phonics. In addition, I am also trained in phonemic awareness. Phonemic awareness is based on sounds and not symbols.

Study Skills

I'm a very organized person. During my school years, I was an honor role student in elementary, middle school and The University of Maryland. Being as I'm organized and have good study habits, I can help students develop these skills. My past work as a social worker helped me to maintain my organizational skills. In order to work with a very heavy caseload and be successful, I had to have a daily plan in terms of completing my work. I can also help students deal with test taking anxiety.

Special Needs

I am a licensed social worker and an Wilson Orton Gillingham Instructor. In addition, I have worked with students that have ADD/ADHD, and Autism/Aspergers. A lot of my students have had an IEP and I've worked with the schools to help the student as well.

ADD/ADHD

I am a Licensed Certified Social Worker in the State of Maryland. I have taken many continuing education credits involving the discussion of of ADD/ADHD. In addition I have been tutoring students for approximately 20 years, and I have a lot of experience in dealing with students that have ADD and ADHD. Dyslexia

I am a Certified Level 1 Wilson Instructor, which is based on The Orton-Gillingham Method of teaching students who are dyslexic. In addition, I had over 200 hours of training in Orton-Gillingham courses such as Project Read and Foundations. In the past I volunteered at The Dyslexic Tutoring Association for ten years and taught people who were diagnosed with Dyslexia.

Sociology

I have a Master's Degree in Social Work. In undergraduate school I had a dual major. One was social work and the other was sociology. I graduated from The University of Maryland in Baltimore County. In terms of graduate school, I went to The School of Social Work and Community Planning in Baltimore Maryland. I'm qualified to tutor this topic.
