I am always a student learning even when I am teaching. I know that as hard as we work/study sometimes we still miss the mark. It is often the case that one-to-one help is required to help the learner discover and value their learning style. There is no one way to see it, feel it, understand it or do it.

I have 15 years of teaching experience in both private and public education. I specialize in US History, more importantly breaking apart complex details -sometimes boring- details so that they become a story with interesting and relevant details. I MAKE IT MAKE SENSE: RELEVANT! My goal as a teacher and learner is to make meaningful connections. I have numerous strategies to help students retain information through organization, mind maps, note-taking and talking it out.

You will learn. You will become a confident independent learner. I look forward to hearing from you and supporting you to achieve great success!

I know things come up and sometimes rescheduling is necessary. Please give the courtesy of at least 5 hours advance notice via text or email. Thank you.

Peace and truth,
Sharlimar

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Social Studies

I have a Bachelor's degree in US History. As well, I studied US History and Women's Studies at the graduate level. I have taught history for 15 years in both private and public schools at the middle and high school level. I love reading and especially history. I view history as a mini-series or a soap opera; therefore, allowing me to break it into juicy parts. Finally, I have the ability to help students to see the relevance and importance of the past.

Study Skills

I was a contributing writer and trainer for Freshman Seminar, an effective one semester study skills course for high school freshman, developed at Johns Hopkins University. This course is taught in many school districts throughout the United States.
In addition, I have successfully taught hundreds of students skills such as note-taking, reading comprehension, organizing information, time management, and study skills. Facilitating students to develop strategies that work best for their learning style and lifestyle is important to me because I believe identifying one's preference is key to enjoying the process of learning.
