Lori has helped many students to master algebra calculations. When students need help with their algebra class, the SAT, or a science class, Lori can help by modeling and reinforcing the algebra steps necessary to solve problems. With practice, these algebra steps become "good habits" that consistently produce the correct answers to algebra problems.
Lori studied anatomy in college, earning an A for the semester. As a high school teacher, Lori taught many anatomy units to biology and advanced biology classes. More recently, she has tutored several students in preparation for their college anatomy classes and the anatomy sections of the MCAT.
Lori studied biochemistry as an undergrad and as a graduate student. She applied her knowledge of biochemistry in the laboratories of Johns Hopkins Medical Institution as a member of the Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology program.
Lori has been teaching biology for over a decade. She is comfortable teaching biology to both high school and college students. Lori's deep understanding of biology was established through her graduate studies at Johns Hopkins Medical Institution. Her friendly, supportive teaching style was developed while working at the Maryland Science Center and local independent high schools.
Lori has been teaching chemistry for over a decade. She loves helping students to understand chemistry and to perform all the necessary calculations with confidence. As an undergraduate, I was a teaching assistant for the college genetics class. As a graduate student, I studied genetics at Johns Hopkins Medical Institution, both in the classroom and at the lab bench. I have four years of experience teaching genetics units to high school students.
Lori has been teaching geometry problem solving for over a decade. When a student needs help with their geometry class or with the geometry problems on the SAT, Lori is able to identify gaps in the student's knowledge and come up with a study plan that strengthens the student's skills. In the case of difficulty in geometry class, Lori is comfortable helping students with their current class work while also addressing knowledge gaps from earlier in the school year.
Lori has been teaching test preparation strategies since 1994. She taught group classes for a national test preparation company for several years. More recently, she has taught GRE strategies to individuals and to groups of science undergrads from Towson University. She teaches strategies for all sections of the GRE and enjoys helping students to learn and practice the required math content.
Lori has many years of experience helping students to meet their goals on the math portion of the SAT. Some students need to go back to prealgebra problems before they can develop more advanced skills. Lori helps these students to develop math habits that allow them to solve prealgebra problems with confidence.
Because Lori has studied childhood development (specifically brain development), she is aware that many prealgebra students need more time for the problem solving centers in the brain to mature. For these students, Lori is able to focus on instilling math habits that lead to successful solving of math problems. That means that students can feel successful in math, even before their brain is ready for a deeper understanding of prealgebra.
I studied public speaking in college and earned an A in the class. I was a student representative in admissions for both my college and my graduate school, giving me ample opportunities to use my public speaking skills. I have guided students through the preparation and practice required for them to give confident, effective presentations.
Lori has been helping students to prepare for the SAT for over a decade. She works with students to review any forgotten math facts (algebra, geometry, arithmetic, interpreting graphs) and she helps students to learn the patterns of how these facts are tested on the SAT. Lori develops an individualized study plan that allows each client to do his or her personal best on the SAT.
Lori has been teaching SAT reading skills and strategies for over a decade. She specializes in connecting with students, helping them to identify their strengths and weaknesses, and identifying their goals for the SAT. Once goals and areas of weakness are identified, Lori develops a study plan tailored to the particular needs of the student. Using real SAT questions, she works with the student to address any areas of weakness. She also teaches the standardized test strategies that maximize performance on the SAT.
Lori has been helping students to prepare for the SAT for over a decade. She addresses any areas of weakness (vocabulary, critical reading, writing mechanics) while also teaching students the test taking skills that will allow them to score their personal best on the SAT.
As a teacher at Boys' Latin High School, I had the opportunity to seek the guidance of our learning specialists. After three years of helping students to get organized and stay up to date with my classes, I am ready to help other students with their study skills.
During her studies at Johns Hopkins University, Lori learned how to make her writing clear and concise. During her years as a teacher, she spent much time writing essays, comments, and letters of recommendation. For over a decade, Lori has been teaching others how to write strong essays for the SAT and the GRE. Her proofreading experience includes work on a chapter of a genetics textbook.
