I am a materials scientist who uses chemistry, physics, and math in my work every day! I live in Baltimore and my laboratory is located in Columbia, so I am easily accessible in both places. I have a Bachelor's degree in physics, a Master's degree in technology management, and a Ph.D. in materials science and engineering. I have led courses in Chemistry I/II and Physics for non-science majors at a local University and have tutored study groups in those subjects. I have also given numerous volunteer guest lectures at the high school, undergraduate, and graduate school levels in the area of materials science and failure analysis. The point of these talks is to demonstrate to students how a strong knowledge of math and science can lead to a number of interesting career choices - choices they may not have even known existed! I especially enjoy working with young people who are curious about the sciences.
Reading comprehension and a writing style that expresses concepts clearly are extremely important in my line of work. I am equipped to assist students in these subject areas as well, including skills such as understanding and responding to mathematical word problems and answering questions about reading passages.
I try to bring a fun attitude and, when possible, interesting real life examples to my interactions with students. Whether prepping for a big test or looking to build up general knowledge, I'm here to help!
