Are you searching for an experienced, certified professional to help you or your child succeed in mathematics? I am a certified math teacher currently working as a high school math teacher for Anne Arundel County Public Schools. Over the past seven years I have taught nearly every high school math class currently offered in the county, including AP and IB courses. These courses include Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Integrated Topics, Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus 1 & 2, and International Baccalaureate Higher Level Mathematics. I am also happy to help college students, continuing education students, and high school students preparing for college entrance tests.

As far as my mathematical background, I attended St. Mary's High School in Annapolis and graduated with honors in 2000. After that, I decided to pursue mathematics at the University of Maryland, College Park. While getting my degree, I worked as a tutor for the athletic department, tutoring students in Mathematics as well as US History and English. It was during this time that I discovered my true passion was in education. Upon graduating, I started working right away as an Algebra and Calculus teacher for Anne Arundel County. I have participated in numerous professional developments, and feel that I have grown exponentially as an educator in the past few years.

Whether you are looking for occasional homework help, or a tutor who can teach you the material three times a week, I would love to hear from you.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have taught Algebra 1 at the high school level, and have also tutored Algebra 1 to both middle school and college level students. I am capable of breaking down topics to make them easier to understand and can help with the abstract thinking required for this course.

Algebra 2

I have taught Algebra II several times at the high school level. I believe Algebra II to be the most important foundational math class that a student can take. Not only can I break down complicated topics so they are easy to understand, but as a Calculus teacher, I can also help you focus on what you need to know for the future.

Calculus

For the past six years I have taught AP Calculus for Anne Arundel County Public Schools with much success. I am very familiar with all the topics covered in AP Calc AB/BC as well as a first and second year college level Calculus class.

Prealgebra

Prealgebra lays the foundation for Algebra 1, the first abstract math course. I can help to make these abstract concepts more concrete, and can make sure you are prepared for Algebra 1.

Study Skills

As a classroom teacher, I believe that it is my responsibility not only to teach students my subject, but also how to learn. Many of my students, even high school seniors in Calculus, do not know how to study. So, I teach strategies such as: how to properly read a math text book, how to prepare for the next class by pre-reading, how to create meaningful study guides using thinking maps, and finally how to manage your time to maximize learning.
