Does your child need help preparing for the academic transitions between school years? Does he or she get frustrated with the everyday academic challenges they face? Does it seem as if they struggle more with how to get the work done than the actual academic content? If your answer is yes, then consider academic coaching as a means of helping your child become more empowered as they face the ever-increasing academic challenges of school. I am a Maryland State certified teacher with a successful background in academic coaching who is available to help your child. The process of learning can be challenging at times, but learning study strategies and developmental skills is key to mastering those challenges. Academic coaching focuses on the development of good organizational skills that promote achievement, success, and motivation, thereby strengthening content-related skills.
Using structured assessments, the specific needs of each child are evaluated thoroughly, academic skills deficits are determined, and an individualized development plan is created. Areas of focus include the following:
•Content organization
•Note taking
•Test-taking strategies and preparation
•Reading Comprehension
•Building vocabulary
•Self-testing, review, and preparation for class
•Support techniques, materials, and resources
•Time management
•Study schedules
•Transitional planning
•Assertiveness
•Stress management
I've been teaching on the secondary school level for almost ten years, am currently certified and employed as a teacher in Maryland, and hold a master's degree in adolescent development. I've also taught on the college level. My initial consultation is free. If interested, please reply and include a contact email address, phone number, and your availability. As your child approaches the new academic year -- middle school, high school or college, now is a great time to prepare them for what lies ahead, helping them academically and reducing related stresses.
