Hello! My name is Sam, I hold a degree in Secondary Education with a subject area focus in English and Literature. My methodology is heavily invested in Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences, in that I try to find the best fit for each student, based on his or her interests and talents. I find that the best way to ensure that a student grasps the material is to make it enjoyable and hilarious. This comes easier to some subjects than others, as you can imagine.
I have considerable teaching experience, having spent my undergraduate hopping between schools in Hartford, CT, and a summer camp in Pennsylvania. I also spent a year teaching ESL in Pohang, Korea! Annyeonghaseyo! Jeoneun hangugmal haji anhseubnida. I'm also a member of MENSA, but having now met a good number of Mensans, no longer feel that it's as big an accomplishment as it sounds.
I am an accomplished professional writer, having sold several comedy articles to list-based supersite Cracked.com, which have been read upwards of half a million times. I have published one book of poetry, and I have a novel due out in the spring. I am also editing a charity anthology of poetry, which is due out at some indistinct point in the future due to the fact that managing poets is an experience not unlike juggling goats. I am a regular fixture at local open mic establishments, having already secured two paying feature shows, despite having spent less than a year writing spoken word-style poetry.
So, yes. Should you select me for your tutoring needs, I will do my best to show your child how algebra can be just as enjoyable as fighting zombies and rescuing princesses or whatever kids do in videogames these days.
