Greetings! My name is Caroline, and I have been giving private music lessons for the past 15 years. I have a current teaching license for general music in the state of Colorado, and am working on getting it transferred here to Massachusetts.
Being a licensed music teacher, I am qualified to teach beginners on all instruments common to wind band, string orchestra, and choir. My primary instruments are violin, piano, recorder, viola, clarinet, and percussion. I am also able to tutor in music history and music theory.
With music I am happy to teach instruments privately or in small groups. Some students learn better one-on-one, while others learn more effectively in a group setting. Whatever works best for the student will work for me.
In addition to teaching music, I am also experienced in teaching English as a second language, and all subjects through the elementary school level. I worked as an aide and substitute teacher at a dual language (English-Spanish) school, and am familiar with that level reading, writing, science, math, and social studies curriculum.
As a teacher and tutor I work to get students to push themselves to succeed. I am very encouraging and supportive, and work with students to help them make discoveries on their own. I believe that we don't truly learn things if we just copy and paste the answers. I help give students the tools to figure out the answers in their own time in their own way. That way the answer is not only known, but the student will have the confidence and experience to help them solve future problems on their own.
