I specialize in moving you from where you are to where you want to be. My style is a whole-life approach to learning. That is all. If I am familiar with it, I can teach you. In most cases, if I don't know it, I can teach myself and help you improve. My experience is that learning is both simple and pleasurable when you approach it with the right mind.
I have a B.S. in Psychological Science from WPI (located in Worcester, MA) which is essentially an undergraduate degree in designing and analyzing scientific experiments. I graduated with high distinction in 2008. Since then, I have worked in two education research and development labs designing and evaluating curricula and learning progressions with a focus on web applications.
WPI is a tech school, so although I'm a psychology major, I'm quite proficient in math and science and can easily tutor calculus, physics, and chemistry at the college level. My background in learning and countless hours practicing my trade allow me to structure lessons to scaffold students in these topics all the way from middle school (even laying the ground work in primary, although thinking of it that way is a stretch).
My teaching experience comes from guiding students through web-based science activities in urban classrooms (middle school), tutoring university students privately, and (oddly enough) teaching dance classes to all ages (from private lessons to classes of 100+) which I consider to have awoken me to effective teaching technique – something people might find surprising given my formal graduate work in the learning sciences. To give a word of explanation, I find that science does not currently understand learning well enough to engineer good teachers – rather, they have to come into their own through experience.
