I am a Massachusetts certified teacher and school counselor. My roles have included classroom teaching, counseling and tutoring. I have taught in both public and private schools and I have worked with special education students in both settings as well. My background as a social worker helps me understand how each child’s experience is unique and pivotal to his learning style.
I am currently teaching Chemistry and AP Environmental Science. I teach many students with different learning styles and special education needs. I have spent a great deal of time planning differentiated lessons. As a science teacher I highly value hands-on learning and use technology in my classroom daily. I also developed an AP approved course curriculum for the AP Environmental Science class. I challenge my students to be curious, to apply known information and to incorporate new information to solve problems independently and collaboratively. I run my classrooms with effective behavior management focusing on consistent and predictable expectations. I feel very comfortable communicating and working with parents.
Outside of the classroom I am very involved with children. I enjoy athletics and believe participation in them can be a very powerful growth opportunity. I coach boys and girls soccer year round. As a certified strength and conditioning coach I run speed, agility, quickness and injury prevention programs for athletes. I also believe travel can be an amazing opportunity for personal growth. I regularly travel as a chaperone and tour guide on international trips with student groups from all over the country.
My own school experience was rich and varied including several years at Maseru Preparatory School in Lesotho, Southern Africa. My commitment to global citizenship began at Maseru Prep and continues today through my local and international volunteer efforts. I look forward to working with students and families on an individual basis to help improve skills, understanding and confidence in school.
