I have been a third grade general education teacher and a special education teacher for grades one through five, with experience writing Individual Education Plans (IEP's) and analyzing psycho-educational testing to determine special education eligibility. As a professional elementary school teacher and substitute teacher, I have over ten years of professional experience with students from diverse populations of all cultures and economic levels. I have a B.S. in Liberal Studies with Business Management, Computer Science, and Philosophy concentrations. I also have an A.S. in Computer Information Systems from Holyoke Community College.

I am an experienced, self-motivated, and detail-oriented administrative management and teaching professional with advanced computer proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Power point, and Access. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. ADD/ADHD

From 2007 to 2008, I taught Special Education Grades 1-5 in reading and math, working with ADHD/ADD students.

Basketball

I was JV Guard and Captain for 3 years in High School.

Elementary (K-6th)

I taught 3rd grade at Weatherbee Elementary School. I substitute taught all grade levels, including elementary for over 10 years for the Gateway Regional School District.

Logic

From 1996-1999, I student Symbolic Logic and Many Valued Logic at Westfield State College. I also served as a volunteer teaching assistant.

Phonics

While a Special Educator for Springfield Public Schools I was trained in teaching phonics to students grades 1-5.

Public Speaking

As President of the Lambda Sigma Honor Society at Westfield State College and a regular public debater, I have perfected the skill of public speaking, from the creation of a written speech to effective presentation techniques including appropriate posture, eye contact, and voice inflection.

Softball

I was a pitcher and right fielder in JV Softball while in High School.

Special Needs

I was a Special Education Teacher in ELA and Math for students with moderate special needs in grades 1- 5 for Springfield Public Schools 2007-2008.

Spelling

I utilize proven phonics techniques as well innovative and engaging applications to aide in the learning and retention of both school assigned spelling words and SAT word lists. Pattern recognition, frequent exposure, and use of new spelling words is key to mastery. Understanding phonetic rules and patterns also aides in the recall of the accurate spelling of difficult words. I encourage students to use new spelling words in his/ her writing to learn both the meaning and spelling of the new word in context.

Study Skills

I have successfully utilized and implemented the SQR method to students in grade school as well as college. My techniques are explained in a step-by-step fashion both clearly and concisely. Consulting me on study skill techniques will make your study time efficient and effective.

Tax Preparation

With the tax deadline fast approaching, I am here to assist any last-minute, anxious people in the use of free online tax software to complete their taxes accurately and efficiently. I can also assist with completing the old-fashioned paper and pencil forms. Although I cannot provide tax advice, I can assist with basic calculations and explain the sometimes complicated instructions.
