I am a Fashion Designer with a fine arts background from Moore College of Art in Philadelphia. I have extensive experience in industry as well as private practice. I have worked in the fashion industry as a sportswear designer, pattern maker and sketch board artist. Privately, I have worked as a tailor and custom clothier, evening wear and bridal designer where I designed, fitted and constructed original garments using couture sewing techniques.
I am enthusiastic about teaching basic sewing, garment construction, tailoring and couture sewing techniques. This includes the options of pattern drafting and draping on a dress form. Fabric is discussed: Natural and synthetic pros and cons, grains, weight and finish are reviewed to guarantee good results and pride in the finished project. I like to encourage creativity in this process, to make the project more meaningful to the individual. For example, for someone learning to sew, I start with a basic garment that would include design input from the student, as well as guidance about the proper fabric to use. I work with the student's aesthetic preference, so that the project is fun in addition to being a learning opportunity. For those interested, I include hand sewing, beading and surface embellishment if so desired.
