I am an enthusiastic and dedicated educator and have successfully planned and taught Portuguese classes in the US for more than seven years. My first teaching experience in the US was as a Portuguese teacher in an adult education program (Brookline Ed.), where my students were of diverse age and educational backgrounds. They had varying abilities and many different reasons for being there. I then taught for two years at Tufts University, where though of the same age, the students again had varying levels of ability and investment in the class. In teaching a second language, I find that using lively, meaningful and authentic activities helps all students to stay engaged and to learn, regardless of ability level.
Also, as a Brazilian living in the US, I’ve had the experience of learning a second language - English. I’m therefore familiar with the cognitive process of second language acquisition. Finally, while working as a journalist in Brazil, I developed the ability to work and communicate effectively as a team member with people of diverse backgrounds, abilities and interests.
