I have 40 years of experience as a simulation engineer with significant experience using math, physics, and Fortran to develop simulation models. I've been a substitute in local high schools for math and science and have also taught algebra, geometry, physics and German in these capacities. In addition, I am also mentoring a student for the past three years from the 7th grade through his current junior year in high school as part of the Stand and Deliver program and the Big and Little Friends organizations. I love the teaching aspect of this relationship and have been thoroughly cleared many times by these organizations. During my 40 years with Raytheon, I taught numerous courses in-house, basic electronics and simulation courses as part of the adjunct faculty at Fitchburg State College.
I am qualified for all levels of Algebra including Algebra-1.
I believe that the previous Algebra certification, which I completed and passed with 100% grade, covers Algebra-2, since there was no higher available Algebra certification.
I am qualified to teach basic High School electronics with R, L & C components, which are sometimes taught as part of a physics course. Both of my degrees are in Electronic Engineering and I've taught basic courses at the college level as an adjunct professor to Fitchburg State College.
For 40+ years I used Fortran almost exclusively to develop simulation models for missile systems. At the time of my retirement, I was responsible for about 30,000 lines of Fortran code. My exposure to Fortran has therefore been very significant over many years at all levels from generating the code to verification of its operation.
I have completed a review of a high school geometry book as well as having taught Geometry as a substitute.
German grammar is relatively difficult compared to English, but on the other hand, the language is very phonetic. When one starts to learn German, the student may be overwhelmed by the grammar. To compensate, I find that faster association between the grammar and vocabulary is achieved by practice, practice and practice reading out loud, forming simple sentences based on the student's daily experiences, and listening to spoken German and lyrics sung in German. To this end I engage the student in simple conversation, provide sound tracks of spoken German in addition to my speaking, and provide simple songs with clearly enunciated lyrics.
Of course, getting the homework done, reading the homework lesson, or writing and explaining the grammar is first priority.
My knowledge of Linear Algebra is limited to having extensive experience in dealing with 3-dimensional vectors, frames of reference and rotation matrices to develop models of the physical world as was required in the simulation of missile systems. In this capacity I wrote many papers and tutorials presented at simulation conferences that presented these concepts and applications.
I also understand very well the use of determinants to solve simultaneous linear equations, and the development of inverse or transpose matrices.
Physics has been a life long interest and I completed a college undergraduate-level course as part of my BSEE degree. I've also tutored physics at the college level for WyzAnt.
Over the past school year (2012-13), I reviewed a popular high school Pre-Calculus text book (Demana, Waits, Foley & Kennedy), and completed most of the sections and tutored Pre-Calculus as part of WyzAnt.
Given that I am proficient in Algebra, Geometry & Pre-Calculus, I am well qualified to prepare a student for his Math SAT tests. I have also taken many SAT-Sample tests, as well as having read several publications on "How to Take SAT Test", so that I am aware of some strategies and am familiar with the formats used in these questions.
I am well qualified to tutor Trigonometry because of my many years of using trigonometric relationships at my job. I am also current with the content of a high school trigonometric course because I recently reviewed and completed all of the odd-numbered problems (for which there were answers) in a high school pre-calculus book, which had about 200 pages and three chapters dedicated to trigonometry. My previous experience tutoring Algebra, Physics & German have shown that I can communicate and be helpful to the student.
Fantastic Tutor — We are very pleased with Helmut who is tutoring our son in German. He has connected well with my son and has brought supplemental content to help with language mastery. My son's understanding of the material has improved especially with respect to spoken and written German. Helmut is very patient and we feel very fortunate to have him tutoring our son. ...
