Most students need a tutor because they fell asleep during the school year; or they did not spend adequate time on the subject matter, either by inattention or neglect. Therefore, a one on one relationship is needed to identify the problem and to immerse the student in the subject matter. Without outside distractions and with a sincere application by the student, tutoring can be enlightening and enjoyable.
Students today as a whole spend too much time with electronic and digital toys such as cellphones, computer social sites, texting, and the like. Reading and comprehension have become a lost art. Letter writing is non-existent. These electronic activities have robbed students of any serious effort at reading and understanding. Learning is not a quick tweet and then the delete button.
I bring my students to reading and comprehension by concentrating on the subject matter at hand. Learning is essentially a self taught effort. No school program can "teach" a student, learning comes from within. A student is only successful if the student invests the time to read and concentrate on the subject matter. If the student missed the boat during the school year, then tutoring offers an opportunity fill the gap.
I am certified by Massachusetts in English (5-8 and 9-12) and History (World and U.S.). Also, I know enough French and Spanish to assist in these subjects, as well.
My students in my classes in school are required to have a book dictionary and to refer to it endlessly to learn definitions including the Latin and Greek roots. Vocabulary building with this "old fashion" method opens up a whole new world for students.
I am ready to assist you with your tutoring needs.
