I have worked in a Medical Child Care Center for nearly 5 years as a Teacher Assistant, helping children ages 2-5 learn to read, write, and communicate within a larger group. I also worked at a University Writing Center five days a week as a learning assistance peer-tutor. Specifically, I helped undergraduate and graduate school students in a variety of subjects and many different types of format requirements. In addition, I spent a significant amount of time working with both foreign exchange students and students with disabilities, forcing me to adapt to my environment and adjust my own methods of communication. I received my undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University on May 19th. As an Economics Major and English Minor, I have developed my writing skills, my ability to communicate, and my understanding of the increasingly global, world economy.
During my Sophomore Summer in 2012, I studied Advanced Spanish Grammar and Conversation at La Universidad VERITAS in San Jose, Costa Rica, and this experience expanded my perspective and challenged my pre-determined outlooks. In addition, my elderly host family helped me become proficient in the Spanish language and, more importantly, gave me an even deeper appreciation for the principles of loyalty and generosity. This past summer I worked for the Cape Cod Baseball League and interned for the Bourne Braves; here, I quickly became a leader and acted to keep the baseball park running, whether managing the concession stand, handling income and donations, fundraising, working from the press box, keeping the scoreboard, or maintaining the field for game play. Simultaneously, I played in a u-35 Men’s league in the Boston Park League, providing for an active yet exciting and baseball-filled summer. In my hometown of West Roxbury, Boston, Massachusetts, I co-own a business. We offer snow and ice removal services during the winter, as well as general landscaping and gardening services during the summer. Over the past five years, we have sustained a consistent base of 8-12 clients, and my responsibilities also involve Excel spreadsheet management, allocation of funds, and communication with clientele.
At Wake Forest University, the demanding curriculum and my broad range of interests have prepared me for a variety of career paths. I was a peer-tutor in the Writing Center for three years, specializing in aiding foreign exchange students and those with learning disabilities. I worked as a WFU Media Relations Assistant and Intern, specifically as an ACC Football Statistic Compiler and Game-Day Assistant, an ACC Women’s Basketball Game-Day Assistant, and an In-Game Statistics “Caller” for Women’s Field Hockey. During my four years at Wake Forest, I was an active member of the Club Baseball team as a starting pitcher and shortstop.
I would describe myself as personable and well-rounded. I believe that my background and experiences prepare me for a variety of situations, and I welcome any opportunity that will allow me to work hard and improve.
I was a starting pitcher at the top of the rotation all four years that I played for the Wake Forest University Club Team (National Club Baseball Association). I also played shortstop and second base during all four years, and as a junior and senior I was the starting shortstop. I am playing in my third season in the Boston Park League, the oldest amateur Men's League in the country, where I have played regularly as both a starting pitcher and a middle infielder. I received ISL All-League honors as a starting pitcher during my senior year at the Belmont Hill School in 2010.
