Teachers today deal with a variety of different learners in the classroom, each with different needs. A good teacher recognizes individual needs and adapts instruction to meet them. I believe strongly that every student can succeed, and I currently work as a special education teacher at a high school, working one-on-one with students to help them improve their academic skills. As a tutor, I work with students on reading, writing, math, and study skills. I can work with students to help them improve their reading levels and become better writers. I have helped students improve their math skills in middle and high school, and I can help them become better organized in the classroom, working on note-taking, test-taking, and time management skills as well.

I've worked with students specifically in the following subjects: Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, U.S. History, World History, and European History. I am HQT in English and can work with students on American and British Literature. I can also help prepare for the SAT and ACT exams.

I have experience working with students with ADHD, autism, and specific learning disabilities. Helping students find success where they have only struggled in the past is what drives me. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you would like to talk further!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Special Needs

I am currently employed as a special education teacher, and I have my M.Ed in General Special Education. Prior to receiving my Master's degree, I worked as a paraprofessional in a school setting with students with special needs; and before that, I worked as a job coach with students with special needs in the community. I am currently in the process of getting my learning disabilities certification from the University of New Hampshire.

Study Skills

One aspect of my job as a special educator and one that I find very important is that I teach study skills. I work with students on building goal-setting, note-taking, test-taking, and time management skills that they will need not only to succeed in high school but in college and their career.

With the new school year starting, I thought I'd write a blog post to talk about what I think are the most important things students should be doing to start the year off on the right foot. If anything, September is the time when students are either excited to come back or are dreading it, but being prepared will help any student have a successful year.    The most important... read more

Excellent math tutor for my son — Patrick was the second tutor my 15 year old son had and the last. My son really liked working with Pat over the past 8 months. Pat was dedicated to helping him get through algebra. In our initial conversation, Pat asked many questions about my son and his needs. At the first meeting, my son was reluctant to go and be tutored, but after the first meeting he looked forward to working with Pat again. ...
