I am a Western Massachusetts native, teaching 4th grade at a local elementary school. I hold a Masters in Elementary Education from the University of Massachusetts and I am certified in grades 1-6.
My strengths lie in reading comprehension, writing, math, science, phonics, building background knowledge and vocabulary- an important skill for emergent readers. I use many early reading interventions (Seeing Stars, Soar to Success), as well as the MAZE (comprehension) and DIBELS (fluency) reading assessments. During tutoring sessions a variety of differentiated materials and resources are used. Including, iPad apps, SmartNotebook lessons, games, real world problem solving, graphic organizers and manipulatives.
It is important the student connects to the material, so it is critical I "know" the student I am working with. Knowing a student's interests and strengths helps me to be the best possible tutor.
I am a fun, creative, silly, and patient person. I enjoy animals, reading the New York Times, hiking, cake decorating. This summer I plan to start a small vegetable garden and continue with yoga!
