I am a Western Massachusetts native, teaching 4th grade at a local elementary school. I hold a Masters in Elementary Education from the University of Massachusetts and I am certified in grades 1-6.

My strengths lie in reading comprehension, writing, math, science, phonics, building background knowledge and vocabulary- an important skill for emergent readers. I use many early reading interventions (Seeing Stars, Soar to Success), as well as the MAZE (comprehension) and DIBELS (fluency) reading assessments. I use a variety of differentiated materials and resources (iPad apps, SmartNotebook lessons, games, real world problem solving, graphic organizers and manipulatives) so all learners feel success.

It is important the student connects to the material, so it is critical I "know" the student I am working with. Knowing a student's interests and strengths helps me to be the best possible tutor.

I am a fun, creative, silly, and patient person. I enjoy animals, reading the New York Times, hiking, cake decorating. This summer I plan to start a small vegetable garden and continue with yoga!

Writing

As a teacher of an MCAS writing assessed grade (4th) I have a wide variety of experiences with writers of all levels. I have numerous scaffolding tools as well as endless ways to make writing fun! I was a part of my district's writing assessment committee this past year, I know what good writing looks like and I have the skills to help students achieve this.

Elementary Science

I am an elementary classroom teacher, teaching all subjects, including science. I hold an undergraduate minor in environmental educations, and love sharing my knowledge with students.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified teacher in grades 1-6 with the state of Massachusetts. I attended the University of Massachusetts and earned an M.Ed in elementary education. I have been teaching in Western MA for over 6 years, and a classroom teacher for 3 of these years.

Study Skills

As a teacher of an MCAS tested grade level, I am skilled in study skills. This includes, but is not limited to:
-narrative and expository composition study skills
-vocabulary building
-using various graphic organizers to answer expository questions in both ELA and Math
-standard memorization skills using various methods (technology/flash cards/body movement games)

Social Studies

I am an elementary certified 1-6 highly qualified, Massachusetts 4th grade teacher. I use the state frameworks as well as the new common core standard to teach students in geography, states and their capitals, as well as the history of their state and country. I also have served on the 2012-2013 social studies MPAKS committee put on by the Department of Education. .
