I found my knack for tutoring when I was in grade school assisting fellow students with their assignments, as I was always the first one done, and the teacher asked me to use the rest of the time to help my classmates. I was best at math and science, and I particularly enjoyed tutoring math. I attended the Mass Academy of Math and Science, a high school for gifted students.
After years of being a star violin student, my violin teacher asked me to be her teacher's aide at the children's group classes. As she grew older and wanted to spend more time with her family, she sent some of her beginner students to me. I managed a very successful violin teaching business for myself, teaching up to 15 students each week after school. I also taught my own set of group lessons of young students to play for Nursing Homes. I started a chamber group of my best students for special performances at local town fairs.
In college I took up ballroom dancing, and quickly rose to the top levels. I was captain of my ballroom dance team and taught my teammates between our coaching lessons. After college I taught a few ballroom classes here and there at different studios and worked with two other collegiate ballroom dance teams. I have taught social dancers, wedding couples, and competitive dancesport athletes. I am great at choreographing wedding dances to any song of your choice. I have worked with many friends as they prepared for their wedding day.
I have been tutoring math, science, and English for over 5 years now and my students have all vastly improved their grades and understanding of the material in the subjects I have worked with them on. I vary my teaching style to the student's learning style and help them to grasp a solid foundation in understanding the subject, not just learn to pass a test. I focus on building life learning skills, and good study habits so that the student can carry those values to their other school subjects and activities.
I have taught violin and dance lessons for over 10 years. My violin students place top in their district, passing all top auditions. My ballroom students place high at competitions. My social dance and wedding students report greater ease of social ability and happiness from a beautiful unforgettable first dance at their wedding.
I teach most of my violin lessons on the weekends, dance lessons on evenings and weekends, and tutoring school subjects afternoons and early evenings.
I am a gold level ballroom dance competitor. I started dancing on a collegiate ballroom team in 2002, and since then, I have continued my training with top coaches. I attend workshops and seminars to stay up to date with the latest styles and techniques.
I used to teach my ballroom dance team at college. Since college, I have worked with two other college teams. I've taught various group classes at small studios. I have also worked with wedding couples in preparation for their First Dance.
I enjoy choreographing. I love to teach dance because it's fun for me and I like spreading that joy. If you think you have two left feet, come take a class with me. I will show you just how easy it can be, and get you dancing in no time.
I have taught a number of students and I understand the different learning types. I can alter my teaching methods to suit the learning style of the student.
I am highly skilled at all the four styles of ballroom dancing: Standard, Smooth, Rhythm, and Latin. I have also studied Salsa, West Coast Swing, Argentine Tango, and a little bit of Lindy Hop. I am best at: Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Cha-cha, Rumba, East Coast Swing, Mambo, Bolero, Jive, Paso Doble, Samba, and Viennese Waltz.
I have worked with a number of students in the K-6 age group, both as a substitute at private and public schools, and in-home tutoring. I have worked with students in the Montessori Method, as well as, traditional schooling. I work to reinforce good work habits and build strong foundations for learning with this age group. I help students understand the concepts they are learning by connecting it with things around them or in their lives that they can relate to.
I have been salsa dancing since 2003 and I have been teaching salsa since 2006. I enjoy going out salsa dancing at various venues and I have performed at a few places. When teaching beginner students, I focus on the simplicity of movement and feeling the music. I break it down in a way that is very easy to understand. I work on solid lead and follow concepts so that you will feel very comfortable going out social dancing with anyone.
For my intermediate/advanced students, I help them to add style to their dancing. I teach the finer details of the more complicated step patterns, always breaking them down to their basic elements. Students that start with me progress faster because they have a solid foundation of understanding the movement when they dance. I get great reviews on my lessons from all my students.
I have been playing violin for almost 20 years. I am trained in Suzuki Method, Classical music, and Fiddle. I started playing violin when I was 10 years old. I excelled very quickly and was soon put into the advanced orchestra at my school. In middle school I became concert mistress of the orchestra, and in high school I played with a college orchestra. I always got into the Districts orchestra every year, and I attended summer music camps every summer of my childhood.
In high school, I taught violin lessons to 15 students each week after school. I also taught a group class each weekend and I arranged music for the group to play at local nursing homes (to satisfy my community service requirement for graduation). I also prepared my students to play for recitals and auditions of their own.
Though I didn't go to college for music, I did play in the regional professional symphony orchestra in the town I went to college. The strings program at my college was poor, so I auditioned for the professional orchestra and was the only student from my college to get in for 3 years. I started a string quartet group and was the student group leader for our rehearsals. I brought the group up to a level where we were asked to play for the President's Reception Speech on Parent's Weekend at the college.
I still enjoy playing now, and I have been branching out to the local fiddle and Irish Seisun music scene. I started teaching again in 2008 and have been steadily growing my own studio of students.

Excellent tutor and planner. — I was VERY impressed with her. She was punctual and got right down to business. She was very clear in her explanations to my daughter. She also established an action plan for studying for the SAT that my daughter could pursue between one lesson and the next. She made the studying seem manageable for my daughter. ...
