I studied German and sociology at Middlebury College. A recent graduate, I am looking to help out others in any way I can. I love learning and spreading my enthusiasm for education to others.
I am currently a teaching fellow at Concord Academy instructing 2 levels of German language: German 2, and Advanced German Language. In the past I have worked as a German waitress at Middlebury College's Language Tables, where I was required to prep one of our 3 dining halls for restaurant-style service and translate the daily menu into German and serve German students. I also interned at a private high school for 5 weeks as a German teaching Assistant two years ago, assisting all levels, 1-4. I have traveled to both Austria ('08) and Germany (once in '05 and again in '10) and spent a semester abroad in the spring of 2010 in Mainz, Germany, about half of an hour outside of Frankfurt am Main. Lastly, in completion of my degree, though not required, I also wrote a 30 page semester-thesis on stereotypes about the German-speaking world and how to better combat these through incorporating the teaching of culture into the curriculum in creative ways.
My German is highly proficient and I love speaking, reading, and writing in this wonderful language!
As for Sociology: I've taken various lectures and seminars on topics ranging from Sociological Theory, Sociology of the Family, Sociology of Education, Race and Ethnicity in the U.S., Linguistic Anthropology and the like. I've written a number of research papers on these topics and completed a semester thesis on an Examination of white racial slurs and their effects on the maintenance of a white identity in America. I have resources and materials at hand, as well as a pretty thorough knowledge of and passion for the above listed topics.
