I have been teaching French language classes at the university level for over two decades and I have been leading student language immersion trips abroad since 2002. I lived in Paris for 3 years and the south of France for 1 and cultivate an insider's view of the language and culture. I have studied in both the French university system (Paris V, MA '84) and in the U.S. (Harvard University, M.Ed '89). I have native fluency and proven success working with students at all ability levels. I am fascinated by the language learning process and enjoy the challenge of finding the approach that works for each individual student. I enjoy helping students learn to navigate and understand cultural differences to minimize culture shock and to maximize enjoyment. I enjoy helping students achieve greater academic success and preparing professionals for business, humanitarian work or leisure travel.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ESL/ESOL

I have extensive experience teaching and tutoring adult English Language Learners. I have worked with non-native speakers at home and abroad (in France and Mexico). I enjoy tutoring students at all levels and working to meet the needs of each individual student.

French

I have been teaching French and tutoring for over 23 years. Most of my experience is with adult or young adult students, but I have also worked with children. I have lived and studied in France and have near native fluency. I enjoy working one-on-one with students, building their confidence and seeing them succeed.

Proofreading

I have extensive experience proofreading undergraduate and graduate student work in my work with the School of Education at the university where I teach. As a native-speaker of English who is well-versed in academic language and grammar, I enjoy working with students to help improve the clarity of the ideas they are trying to express, while remaining true to their own ideas.

Extremely Professional and Dependable French Tutor! — Andrea always arrived on time, was prepared for each session, and pleasant to have in my home. She was extremely patient with me and totally reliable. I never had to worry about getting an e-mail or phone call that she would abruptly cancel me when I needed to review for an upcoming test or quiz. She put my fears to rest. Her typed notes were also very helpful as study guides. I highly recommend A ...
