Teaching English as a Second Language to foreign students and professionals is my passion. Learning about each student's cultural background, education, and learning style has broadened my understanding of Human Development (the field of my Doctoral work at Harvard Graduate School of Education).
During my years as an educational researcher and evaluation specialist I had the opportunity to learn about the many immigrant groups who have come the U.S. over the past thirty years. My admiration for these families who struggle to adapt to a new culture, language, and educational system is great. At a certain point, I began working with Family Literacy programs such as Even Start. At that time, I evaluated the ESL or ELL programs and decided that I could be of direct service in that area.
Although I teach in classrooms and love that work, it is my experience as a private tutor that has allowed me to actually directly observe clients' progressing through intensive one to one learning. I have worked with clients and students from Central and South America; Italy, Spain, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Iceland, Scandinavia, Russia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, China, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Nepal, India, Taiwan, The Ivory Coast, Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia,Syrian, Lebanon, Israel, Romania and Bulgaria just to name a few!
Grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary development, reading and writing, and helping with the TOEFL are areas I am confident teaching.
