Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have worked with students with ADD & ADHD extensively in my private tutoring. Some have been on meds.; others not, some have been on school IEPs, some not, some have been high school students, others middle and elementary students. My tutoring work for the Lexington public school system, run for most of the years by the Special Education department, also dealt with many students with ADD/ADHD issues.

Dyslexia

My tutoring work for the Lexington public school system for 14 years was run, for most of those years, by the Special Education department. As result, I have worked with students with all sorts of special circumstances: Dyslexia, ADD/ADHS, Hearing loss, various forms of judgmental and function disorders, mental and emotional issues such as anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, eating disorders, concussion effects, etc. I have also worked with students with similar issues in my private tutoring.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have tutored elementary school students in Reading, Writing and Math for 15 years, both privately and for Commonwealth Learning Centers. Privately, I have worked with students who needed basic support, as well as those doing very well looking for enrichment. For Commonwealth Learning Center, I worked with students with severe learning issues in Reading and Writing using specialized programs such as Nanci Bell VV.

ISEE

I have successfully helped many students taking the ISEE to get scores required for their choice of private schools in my 15 years as an independent tutor. I am qualified in SSAT, a similar test. I am certified in Math in Mass., and am qualified for SAT & ACT Math, English and Writing, all similar or higher level to the ISEE.

Study Skills

I have tutored middle and high school students for 14 years overwhelmed by or uninterested in homework and/or studying for and taking tests and provided them with methods, strategies, and skills to address issues of time management, organization, studying habits, note taking, effective reading and test taking.
