Currently attached to Brandeis University in the Boston area, and holding Master's degrees in Mathematics and in Computer Science, and pursuing a PhD, I have been tutoring in several Math & Stats courses for over ten years, and am available for help in Middle and High School, College, and ACT/SAT/GMAT/GRE/MTEL-level Mathematics, and Statistics and Physics in the Waltham area this semester. If you're from one of the neighboring areas, you may be interested.

My teaching experience includes Calculus, Multivariable Calculus, Discrete Math (Combinatorics & Graph Theory), Recreational Math, Proofs, Biostatistics, Linear Algebra, and a class on GRE/GMAT Prep on which I colloborated with another instructor.

My tutoring experience includes, in addition to the courses listed above, Logic, Real and Complex Analysis, Algebra,
Probability & Statistics, Differential Equations, Stochastic Processes, Number Theory, High School/GRE/GMAT/SAT-level and Actuarial-level Maths, High School Physics, and even a little Control Theory & Signal Processing, and Quantum Chemistry!

Even when helping people work through problem sets, my tutoring style focuses on learning the underlying theory, since that sets them up best for future problems they may come across. Over the years, I believe this approach has worked well.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I have a perfect record at several Math tests as a student, both multiple choice and otherwise, at the ACT level and higher. I have tutored people in ACT Math multiple times.

Algebra 1

I use algebra constantly for calculations in my graduate level math research.

In my school years, algebra was one of the subjects I had to learn thoroughly while making it to the national level training camp of the Math Olympiad.

I have tutored people in algebra multiple times.

Algebra 2

I have tutored people in Algebra multiple times.

Biostatistics

I have taught BioStatistics at the undergraduate level, and have been a Teaching Assistant for the same. The quantitative theory behind BioStatistics is Statistics, a subject with which I am familiar, and which I use occasionally when studying distributions in my graduate level Math research. I have tutored people in BioStatistics multiple times.

C

I have a Master's in Computer Science. C was a language I had to use during all the semesters, and occasionally later as well.

Calculus

I have taught Calculus at the undergraduate level, and have been a Teaching Assistant for the same. I have tutored people in Calculus multiple times.

Differential Equations

I have taught Differential Equations at the undergraduate level, and have been a Teaching Assistant for the same. I have tutored people in Differential Equations multiple times.

Discrete Math

I have taught Discrete Math at the Undergraduate level for three semesters, and have been a Teaching Assistant for the same for two semesters. Discrete Math is also my area of Graduate level research. I have tutored people in Discrete Math multiple times. In my school years, Discrete Math (Combinatorics & Graph Theory) was one of the subjects I had to learn thoroughly while making it to the National level training camp of the Math Olympiad.

Finite Math

Finite Math includes Discrete Math as well as several other fields like Probability Theory, Matrix Algebra, Linear Algebra, and the building blocks of Calculus. I have taught these topics at the Undergraduate level for eight semesters, and have been a Teaching Assistant for the same for several more. Discrete Math is also my area of Graduate level research.

I have tutored people in these fields multiple times.

In my school years, Finite Math (Combinatorics & Graph Theory) was one of the subjects I had to learn thoroughly while making it to the National level training camp of the Math Olympiad.

3x – 4 > 11 (answer)

We have 3x - 4 > 11.  We would like to "solve for" x, so we start by adding 4 to both sides of the ">".  This does not affect the ">".   This gives us 3x > 11 + 4, i.e. 3x > 15.  We then divide both sides by 3.  Since...

We want to factor the quintic polynomial p(x) = - 60x^5 + 77x^4 + 6119x^3 - 4044x^2 - 99952x - 24640.   We will make use of the following fact.  If p(x) is a polynomial, and a is a real number such that p(a) = 0, then (x-a) is a factor of p(x).   With this in...
