Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

English

Language has always been my passion and a I have natural ability to teach others the intricacies of the English language in easy to understand terms. English major in college earning a 3.85 GPA with a concentration in literature. Experienced tutor. Proven teaching record in English, proofreading, grammar, reading, writing, and literature.

GED

The GED (General Educational Development) is comprised of five tests; Language Arts/Writing, Social Studies, Science, Language Arts/Reading, and Mathematics. Get the edge by being as prepared as possible. With the right coaching and tutoring you, or your student, can succeed.

Grammar

The rules of English grammar can be daunting for some, but with the right mix of animated teaching skills, some drills and repetition, and a simple and honest desire to learn and master the rules of grammar, success is guaranteed!

Literature

The enormous reservoir of English literature offers a vast array of fun and exciting stories from which we learn about the world and about ourselves. There are so many awesome and exciting books and plays in all the various literary periods that it is almost impossible to choose a favorite era or author! Together we can explore the great works of William Shakespeare from the Elizabethan days, or of Charles Dickens from the early Victorian period, or perhaps one of the many great authors from the nineteenth or twentieth centuries and beyond. Read to understand; learn to study and analyze great works of literature, but first and foremost read literature to enjoy life.

Proofreading

Proofreading is one of the most natural things for me to do for people simply because I have always been the default proofreader for family and friends before I began to do it professionally. I offer corrections as well as explanations to help you understand the applicable grammatical rules at hand. Learn the many common mistakes people make when writing and learn to avoid them in the future.

Reading

Reading offers so much to the reader. We read for many reasons; to gain knowledge, to relax and enjoy ourselves, to be entertained, to satisfy a school requirement, to learn about the world, to learn about ourselves. Reading skills vary greatly in students, and comprehension is vital. Learning to identify the most important parts of discourse is the key to success for reading at any level. With training and coaching, reading skills can vastly improve in relatively short time periods.

SAT Reading

SAT preparation is vitally important to students who wish to succeed at this in-depth aptitude test. My SAT tutoring is designed to maximize your student's reading comprehension by allowing for and providing an individualized preparation program in a clear and concise format. Let me help motivate your student to achieve his or her best possible SAT score.

SAT Writing

For many students, achieving a high score on the writing section of the SAT can be a scary and daunting thought. Anticipate a high score with the right training. My SAT instruction and guidance is individualized to your student's current level, learning ability and needs. With my clear and concise teaching method, I can help motivate your student to desire and achieve the best possible SAT writing score.

Vocabulary

Vocabulary is of paramount importance. Not only does vocabulary comprise the building blocks of effective language, it also aids in expression, communication, and reading comprehension. A person's success is often based on their apparent vocabulary abilities and overall command of the English language. The great news is that an extensive vocabulary is easy to build.

Writing

Writing skills can be improved vastly with the right coaching. Reading, vocabulary growth, comprehension skills, and a working knowledge of grammatical rules are intertwined to support any ongoing campaign for continuous improvement in writing skills. I have helped many students improve their writing skills over the course of many years.
