My name is Megan and I am in the class of 2015 at Amherst College. I plan to be a double major in math and history. I graduated with the Class of 2011 from Phillips Academy Andover. In high school, I tutored various levels of mathematics for two years. When tutoring students I do not like to simply show a student an example. Instead, I prefer to not always directly give students an answer, but rather provide leading questions that help students grasp the concepts and reach the conclusion on their own.

Algebra 1

I completed Algebra I in high school. I plan to major in math at Amherst College.

American History

I took American history during my junior year of high school. In my most recent semester, I completed a course entitled "20th Century America". I plan to major in history at Amherst College.

Calculus

I completed calculus in high school and completed Calculus II my first semester in college. This past semester, I took multivariable calculus.

Precalculus

I completed precalculus during high school.

Trigonometry

I completed trigonometry during high school. My most recent math course was multivariable calculus.

Writing

I took multiple writing intensive courses in high school. As a history major, I find myself writing many papers that require me to develop my own thesis and find appropriate evidence to support my conclusion.

English

I took four years of English during high school, including a trimester on Asian American literature, Shakespeare and various forms of writing.

Basketball

I have played basketball for ten years. In high school I played at the varsity level for four years and captained the team for my senior season. I was also a NEPSAC Class A All Star that year. In college, I play at the varsity level for Amherst College. I earned NESCAC Player of the Week honors during the season as well as NESCAC Rookie of the Year Honors for the 2010-2011 season.

Video Production

I took a video course during my spring semester of my senior year. For this course I produced various short films using Final Cut Pro, including an experimental film and a documentary for my final project.

Photography

I worked as a photographer for my high school yearbook and served as the Head of Photographer for the book my senior year. Currently, I work as a photographer for the Amherst College Public Affairs Office.

Linear Algebra

I completed a linear algebra course at Amherst College during the Spring 2013 semester. The course covered proofs, matrices and more.
