I completed a degree in Physics from Yale University, and offer a number of years of experience tutoring in volunteer settings. I am also a freelance writer, and in general am as passionate about the humanities as I am about math and science. I feel my key strengths as a tutor are my ability to clarify difficult concepts in an articulate manner, my ability to engage and motivate students, and my ability to instill confidence by developing academic and test strategies that are optimum for an individual student.
In terms of my approach to tutoring, for test preparation I believe content knowledge and test strategy should be considered equally important. For purely academic tutoring, I believe establishing a dialogue with a student, along with careful listening, are the keys to identifying, and removing, potential stumbling blocks.
Another way I work with kids is as a ski coach. What I love about tutoring is similar to what I love about coaching--helping students improve their performance.
