I have studied the Jewish bible since first grade. I have twelve years of yeshivah education and a Master's in Jewish Education. I read the weekly Torah portion with commentaries "religiously" every week as well as the weekly "haftorah" from the Prophets. I also study the Writings for my own edification and betterment. I am qualified to read and teach all of the Jewish bible in the original Hebrew.
I am a yeshiva graduate with fluency in modern Hebrew, both conversational and reading. I have taught Hebrew to young children and adults and am skilled in helping navigate a language that can be strange and confusing through helpful hints and easy immersion methods.
As a piano teacher, I have always tried to provide an historical context to my music lessons so that my students understand the influences of a given musician as well as having the composer "come alive" for them. To this end, it is important to know the particular culture in which the music was written - where, when, and, sometimes, why. In order to better understand a given piece of music, it is also important to parse its originality versus the stock themes of the genre (e.g., baroque, romantic, etc.) so as to understand the progression of the music and the uniqueness of a particular composition within its historical framework.
I have taught piano to a wide variety of students, both children and adults and can help with all styles from classical to blues, jazz, and pop. I can "tune in" to your strengths and build from a positive base helping you understand what you are playing and enhance your technical skills.
