Math and Science Tutoring from a Professional Chemist

I am a professional Chemist offering tutoring services in Math and Science. I have tutored throughout high school and college. Additionally, I served as a Teaching Assistant for Introductory Chemistry while an undergraduate in college.

I truly enjoy watching students grow as they grasp fundamental concepts or are able to solve problems that were once challenging to them. My tutoring philosophy is based on ensuring that students have a strong understanding of concepts and fundamentals. This is achieved through interactive questioning, explanations that can be related to and asking the student to explain the concept in their own words. Once a student has an understanding of the basics, these skills can be applied to homework problems, exams and/or real world situations.

I am happy to meet with students one-on-one or in a group setting during the evening or weekends. Meetings can take place either at the student's home or a mutually agreed upon location.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have worked with elementary aged children helping them to complete homework assignments and develop good study and time management skills. Some of my past work has been with special needs elementary aged children.

I have helped children as they learn to write reports about the books they are reading in school as well as fictional stories. In terms of math, I have taught children how to multiply and divide as well as reinforced concepts such as shapes.

Study Skills

I have worked with students of all ages to improve their study, time management and test taking skills. I focus on helping students break larger projects into smaller, more manageable pieces that are easier to complete. Additionally, I help students with test taking by providing suggestions on how to manage their time and prioritize the questions they answer to maximize points.

Photography

I have been shooting photography for several years now, having originally learned on a film SLR. I now shoot digital using a DSLR and can easily explain the principles of photography, including shutter speed, aperature, and ISO to those who are interested. Additionally, we can work on composition to create compelling images.

MCAT

I am a professional chemist who studied for an took the MCAT before deciding that science was the right career path. I am familiar with the content tested on the exam and eager to help others who seek to enter a career in medicine.

College Counseling

I have helped students prepare for college admissions by guiding them through the application and interview process.

I currently serve as an Alumni Interviewer for Tufts University and each year I am tasked with interviewing a number of applicants to the school. This role helps keep me current with what universities are looking for in their applicants as well as what is going on in local high schools.
