I am a public school teacher licensed in Elementary Education and Special Education Moderate Disabilities K-8, and hold a Specialty license in Elementary Mathematics. I have tutored students through grade 12 as part of an NCLB tutoring job and I am also Montessori trained. My tutoring experience includes all subject areas: reading, writing, math, science, and study skills for grades K-12, including MCAS prep, SAT prep, and GED prep. My tutoring services include written progress reports, individualized lesson plans, and suggestions for at-home strategies. I use many of my own class-room materials and believe in a multi-sensory approach that allows students to explore a concept in depth using manipulatives, discussion, and practice. Algebra 1

I am licensed to teach through 8th grade and have tutored through grade 12 in Algebra 1, 2, and Geometry.

Algebra 2

I hold a math specialty license and have tutored high school students in Algebra 2 for five years through an NCLB tutoring position. When teaching Algebra, I encourage students to list out all of their steps until the sequence becomes concrete. I also use a hands on instructional method to make the steps more concrete.

Vocabulary

Undergraduate degree in English. Have completed research projects on best practices for vocabulary building. Experience includes tutoring students grades 3-12 in vocabulary using context clues. For high school students, we work on the "top 100 words every high school student should know."

Grammar

Bachelor of Arts in English. Experience tutoring students grades k-12, including composition & grammar/syntax.

Geometry

I have tutored several high school students in geometry and use geometric solids during my instruction. Some activities I do when tutoring include creating perspective drawings and using on-line architectural programs for developing lines and angles. My current job is as a math coordinator.

Prealgebra

I have tutored many middle school students in mathematics, including prealgebra. Because part of my current job has been to work on math curriculum, I have access to many math databases and am familiar with the new math standards.

Precalculus

I am a licensed mathematics teacher who has assisted students with precalculus on Advanced Placement testing. When tutoring in precalculus, I help students make connections to Algebraic thinking to solve problem sets and also focus on organizational skills. I help all of my precalculus students to develop formula sheets and study guides for future reference.

Reading

Bachelor of Arts in English, Masters in Education/Special Education. Experience with general reading strategies (phonics, blends, chunking) and reading comprehension. Focus on text to text, text to self, and text to world connections. Tutored students grades k-11 in reading comprehension.

Writing

Bachelor of Arts Degree in English. Undergraduate work included author studies and compositional writing. Have tutored students grades 3-12 in writing from basic paragraph structure to full essay development including students in advanced placement classes.

English

Undergraduate degree in English. Graduate Degree in Education. Recent tutoring experience includes tutoring students through grade 12 in reading comprehension and writing, including support with college entrance essays and studying for AP English exams. Vocabulary building, grammar and syntax practice, and development of figurative language understanding are other areas I have tutored.

SAT Math

District Math Coordinator with experience tutoring math through grade 12, including SAT prep. Service includes use of College Board practice tests.

GED

Have tutored several students in Math and ELA for GED prep. Have highschool equivalent baseline assessment tests to identify target areas for instruction.

I hold a specialty license in Elementary Math 1-6. I am a district coordinator and currently teach math intervention.

Teacher of summer S.T.E.M. (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) courses with elementary, mathematics, and special education licenses is available to tutor. I studied science as an undergraduate and frequently assist with teaching science at my elementary school.
