I taught high school math in a private Christian school for 10 years.
I see math as a 'game' to be played and won. IMO, that mindset helps struggling students succeed.
Math is based upon patterns. A tutor's job is to help the student recognize which patterns to use.
Bringing in real life uses of a math concept, as a teaching tool, helps the student understand how to view problems.
My philosophy is that I've never met a student that can't succeed in math if shown properly.
